Womens Welfare

“The women has her own place, and she can herself make a heaven of hell’’ (John Molton)

The major concern of the Society has been the establishment of a wing for Women’s Welfare. This wing has been working in collaboration with many Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations and has been involved in the setting up of a Women Crisis Center in Gujar Khan. This small initiative has been hailed and helped a great deal by the local population and ever since has been a joint effort of the community.

The main achievements of this sector include:

  1. During the last one year or so 26 cases of Domestic Violence have been reported to the center.
  2. On top of the 26 cases, 45 more cases requiring Social or Legal Counselling were also registered with the center.
  3. Effective links were developed between the Local Police Station, District Head-quarter Hospital, local press and the office of the Tehsil Nazim by the Center.
  4. 10 cases were referred to CCW, Islamabad (Ministry of Women Development) while around 30 were handled by volunteers of the Local Center.
  5. Doctors and Lawyers from Rawalpindi and Gujar Khan have been providing volunteer services to these deserving cases. However, the cost of Litigation, Medicines and related equipment is borne by NCL.
  6. In Year 2002 – UNDP/WP3 (Women’s Political Participation) was launched for training of 28,000 women councillors throughout the country. Training workshops were conducted in NCLSW acted as lead mentor and master trainer. Technical assistance was also provided to the project as well as research work done.
